Vauxhall Cavalier K reg 1992/3
My Cavalier 1.6 fuel injection idles at around 2500-3000 revs regardless if the engine is hot or cold ,the engine management light is on constantly also, had a garage diagnostic check it and was told that the throttle valve sensor was at fault , had it replaced but the problem is the same , now no one at the garage seems to have any idea as to what the problem could be ...there is no adjustment that can be made to lower the revs and the throttle cable has been checked and isn`t sticking ...can anyone help ?...many thanks in advance .

tommy.h , i`m not sure if the car has an idle control valve i`ve not got a haynes manual here but i`ll check at the weekend when i get one .
cazzz1975, the car doesn`t seem to be over or under heating , so i`m not sure if it might be that but right now i`m grateful for any advice .
tommy.h , thanks for the info i`ll post there also .
Btw what i did notice with the engine running is that there is only what i can describe as a "mushroom" shaped disc that seems to be bolted on top of the inlet manifold with some sort of diaphragm under it (sort of like a thermostat) which when the diaphragm is pushed upward cuts the idle speed to what it should be but as soon as i let go (it gets HOT as you can imagine ) then the speed rises again to around 3000, the mechanic who looked at the car seems to think that this "mushroom" thing is water temperature controlled but he`s not sure .
Thanks again to all
