04 corsa life could my head gasket be gone??

I Went out today to check my Oil and checked dip stick and it was black oil but low so I walked to Tesco witch is next door came back took oil cap of and there's this thick mayo like stuff all round the cap is this my head gasket gone? Its running fine and not over heating really confussed.

Normally if your head gasket was gone or going then the dipstick normally has the white gloop on it as well....

Disco Fever is right, you should expect to see the water contaminated oil on the dipstick also. the white mayo in the cap may be due to condensation forming on the inside of the cap, this is mainly due to the engine not reaching proper operating temperature on short journeys, or maybe a blocked breather pipe, if the engine seems to be running ok it most probably is.

Yeah, listen to slurp. Probably just condensation accumulation due to short sharp journeys. Check your oil capped is not cracked too. If nothing else wrong ie:performance not affected, then you probably ok.

its is due to short journeys i get it on my 1.2 16v corsa.

I have just started doing short journeys I've just had a baby and don't go very far now. I used to work 35 miles away and been doing that for a year and car been fine so I hope that is just it.
