Can anyone help me please. I have a Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 petrol 97 (P) reg. Everytime I drive the car the engine management light comes on and you can't rev the car past 4 rpm because it sounds like its hitting the rev limiter. I was told that it was the airflow meter which i replaced but the problems still there. I have changed all spark plugs and leads and the idol valve. I have now been advised that it could be the coil pack could that be correct????

why dont you just take it to a garage and fdind out whats wrong with it,instead of listenibg to people who havent got a clue, and you will save money.
I agree with the last comment. Bring it to a garage and get them to put check the managment system which should point you to the faulty componenet.
hi kojack
this is a common problem on the ealier ecotec engine you will find that the problem is the cam senser.when this fails the engine management light comes on and the e c u will not allow the engine to rev above approx 4000 rpm.
I though that was the purpose of this site Normanthedog! To ask peoples advise before taking it to a garage, I think you were a bit sharp there.
the car is in limp mode, this happens so that you dont do any further damage until the problem is rectified, if it is a fuel problem for example incorrect fuel mixtures can damage the catylytic convertor
