My Vauxhall Corsa (1999, 1.0, 12V) was driving fine up until last weekend when I had to make an emergency stop on the motorway - thanks to the idiotic driver of a BMW. Since then, the car has broken down three times. When I try to start the car, it sounds fine, but the engine itself never gets started, and the orange light comes on. If my car is not used for a few hours, it starts fine. If you switch off the engine for just a few minutes though, it will not start again. I recently filled the car up with petrol. When trying to start the car a few minutes later, it refused to get going!
i have the same type of car and had the same problem it was the crankshaft sensor it cost me 38.00 from vaxhall you have to jack up the car look at the back left side of engine you will see a wireing plug with one torx screw to hold it on the engine disconnect battery first or you will damage other components

Thanks norma-milne! The car has been into the garage and problem was the crank shaft sensor, so many thanks! Not being too technical myself, they carried the work out at a cost of 113.00.
