Am I likely to be in trouble?
OK here's the situation, where I live I have a residents only car park, which is clearly signed saying as much.
Every weekday morning I come out of my house to cars parked there for the day while the owner is at work - not so much of a problem in the morning but it's infuriating when you drive home and don't have a parking space, which I paid for along with my house!. If any of us who stay there catch a non resident (or their friends or family) parking up, we ask them if they're a resident, when they admit they are not we point to the signs and ask them to park elsewhere. Sometimes this is met with expletives but for the most part they move on.
I get a lift to work most mornings and my car share driver is on the ball and asks the non resident workers to move on if they drive in while he's waiting for me. This morning, he pointed to a car and said "that woman just ignored me when I spoke to her, she just walked away".
This pi55ed me off big time.
I wrote a note and stuck it under her wiper saying:
"The next time I see you parked in residential parking or you are ignorant enough to ignore being pulled up for it, expect to come back to flat tyres. From the resident at number 23"
My driver is convinced that I'll get done for issuing threatening letters, but I don't think so - at worst a 'talk to' from the police.

I know that when I lived in Edinburgh, residents parking had to be paid for by way of a residents permit, so that they had use of the spaces, but not a guaranteed space, but still had to pay a substantial amount for an annual permit, I don't know if a similar scheme operates where you live Raggy. P.S this is for on street parking.
To answer your question Latiku - I cant see that the woman would go to the police, especially as she is well aware that she is in the wrong in the firts place, i wouldn't worry about it.

you may be asking for trouble clamping them yourself and you'd need to put signs up stating clamping is in operation, but why not contact a local clamping company and see if they would be interested in a patrol of the area, all they are worried about is making money so if they have the chance to clamp a few more people a day they may go for it.
Lakitu - all you really need to do is to put up one or two warning signs stating that this is private land and any cars parked illegally will be clamped and there will be a release fee of 100.00.
This will deter pretty much anyone from parking.
Cost of the sign should be no more than around 20.00. You want to use the same material as used by estate agent boards.

Whiffey - I know it may have been a bit too honest but I was so mad at just how ignorant she had been I'll be glad if she comes chapping on my door tonight because she's going to get a verbal earbashing.
Raggy - I have never seen residential parking on a public highway in my City. As Annie says, there is options for residtents to obtain a parking permit from the Council to park without getting a ticket from the parking meter but it's not exclusive to residents. I can park there too if I put money in the meter.
Annie - It's mostly police or police admin staff that park there as I live just around the corner from headquarters, there is a high chance I've left a note to a bobby LOL!!

i wouldnt have put the flat number down. What if they have some damage on their car and decide they want to say you did it!?
I can sympathise with you, we always had it where i used to live and the individual parking spaces were on the deeds to each house.
We also get it at work, our private car park gets parked on by mums taking their kids to a dance class. When asked to move on they say that they can park where they want as its empty or that its not private its a council industrial estate. We now block them in! last time one mum came in and asked my mum to find out who owned the car and to get it moved. Mum said she'd look into it. It was half an hour before mum decided to go and move her car from behind the womans lol
Im all for following them home and parking on their driveway!

I think the logic for residents parking only on areas of public road is as follows.
Some places have a high demand for parking for example by events locations, shopping areas, stations etc.
In these areas there are often public carparks that are maintained and therefore charged for by the companies that run them.
Many people will try to avoid paying for that parking by parking in the public road areas causing difficulties for residents.
Therefore councils zone areas specified for residents and charge residents an annual fee for the policing of them.
The idea being to ensure that residents have a reasonable chance of being able to park within a walking distance of where they live.

They couldn't possibly prove that I touched their car, red. If something happened to her car before I got home and she tried to pin it on me, I have the genuine alibi of being at work.
I've tried blocking them in, but more often than not cars either side have moved away and they can manoeuvre around my car to get out (making me look like pillock for parking in the middle of an empty car park LOL).
I'd love to follow them home, but why should I waste my own time doing that? They shouldn't be so ignorant.
I had one chap a couple of weeks ago say "but it's run by the council so I can park here if I like"
Errr, no! The streets around about are all pay and display, his head must really button up the back if he thinks the council are going to start giving away freebie parking spaces in a pay and display area!
Sorry, I'm gearing up for full rant mode here...!
