If the speed limit on a given raod was 30mph (and had always been so) and it was changed to 20mph BUT ALL the signage on the road (and within the whole city) were uninforcable due to a mistake in placement and lighting what is the legal speed limit?

Wow Tetjam, you answered someone else's question and I feel I have to add the expletive was an inspired touch. Well done you...

Neither I nor anyone I know has been cought speeding in this situation.

It is in fact a hypothetical question. However as 98% of the lower limit signage in (a rather large) city is uninforcable (due to the above) I wondered what the speed limit by law is.

If you know the answer please feel free to let me know otherwise I respectfully suggest you get your facts right and go and swear at someone else.

Actualy it's not obvious...

The police are not procecuting those doing more than 20. Therefore it seems reasonable that there should be a speed at which they would or could prosecute without the fear of being made a laughing stock by the legal system they 'uphold'

If it were 20 they would prosecute.

They aren't because THEY KNOW the limit is UNENFORCABLE
You are a newbie - don't waste your time arguing with tetjam as is the on site wind up merchant.
