can anyone tell me what the speed limit is for a 7.5 ton vehicle towing a trailer on a dual carriageway?i know the limit without a trailer is 60 but i'm not sure if towing a trailer makes a difference. The reason i ask is i was flashed going past a gatso on a 60 signed dual carriageway in a 7.5 with large trailer but i was definately doing less that 60, about 56 ish i reckon.

If you were in a 7.5T vehicle and towing a trailer, your max gross weight must be well over 7.5T, therefore the max speed on a dual c'way is 50 mph. I'm afraid you are probably nicked.
Just thought; if you have a C1 licence you can only tow a trailer up to 750kg. If its bigger than that (up to a combination weight of 12T) you need a C1+E. If the bobbies think the trailer is greater than 750kg and you haven't got the 'E', you could be in trouble for that too.
I don't think there are many Gatsos that can recognise a lorry from a car. It will therefore be set to car limits.

In my experience speed cameras on dual carriageways do not flash HGVs at 56.

It therefore probably wasn't you it was flashing.

Having said that there are speed cameras on the single carriageway A556 at Mere near Manchester that can recognise an HGV from a car. It is signed up at 50, but trucks doing 50 get fined.
Agree with you in the main PB, but I got done on the A15 north of Lincoln doing over 40 on a single c/way, but it was 60 for cars.
just from observation on the M40 today, the speed limit for a 7.5Tonner, regardless of trailer, is 95mph.
Must be old vehicles mushroom, as 7.5 tonners are now being fitted with limiters to 56.

Was it actually a duel carriageway though? What denoted it as such?
Maybe you were speeding at 56mph on a single track road?
i think the speed is 60mph, but the daft thing is all 7.5 ton vehicles should now have speed limiters set to 56mph, if you have not done this and r caught expect a huge fine by vosa
