Cops driving using mobile phones.

Last night at 8pm on Itv's ''' Send in the Dogs '' there were two cops using phones while they were driving with one hand, one female one male.

The Male cop was actually chasing a car thief.
I have a lot of respect for the police, but surely this is not sending out the right message to drivers who are being constantly told not to use their mobiles while driving.

By the way, I thought it was an excellent programme.

If it was my car the thief had stolen, I wouldn't care even if the police were juggling while driving, as long as they caught the thief.

I assume they need the phones to keep in contact wit hthe station to pass on info.

Good luck to them I say. It's not a job I would want.

so squarebear if the copper accidentally run over a family member whilst tryijng to get your car back, because he was on the radio to head quarters, what would you say then?

It's not a job I would want either squarebear,
but I would rather see the cop not catching the car thief, rather than knock somebody down and kill them.

I assume these police are trained in driving at high speed and difficult situations?

yes squarebear they are, but we still hear stories of coppers accidentally killing civilians during high speed chases.

they are not trained to be using mobile phones in such situations though

and as MATRIX said if they ran over a family member would you still claim that the police knew what they were doing so it mustve been the fault of the casualty?

And if it was my stolen car they were chasing, and they ran you over because they were using a mobile phone and not in proper control of their vehicle, I wouldn't be too bothered.

I agree that they should be using hands-free but possibly that wasn't available at the time? I didnt see the programme.

If I saw or heard the police car coming, I would sensible enough to stand back and not attempt to cross the road.

The police take the p!ss all the time - phones when driving, double yellows at McDonalds, speeding, no seatbelts, I see it all the time. They're the biggest gang this country's got, with one set of rules for themselves and another for everyone else - which they bend when it suits them.

When did the Police stop using two-way radios such as TETRA, which may legally be handheld when driving, for mobile communication?
