Gordon Brown was talking about electric cars where you wouldn't pay for the car itself but pay for it by buying electricity - like getting a free mobile phone.

I assume this isn't available yet, but, as I'd like to buy my first car and don't have any money, is there any way to get an eco-friendly car with some government incentives so that it won't cost me much?

I cannot see our government giving everyone in the UK a new car, can you?

Have you factored in the cost of insurance for a new driver?

Any so-called eco friendly car will cost more than a normal one.
Your first mistake was obviously listening to Gordon Brown.....

Here it is:
http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/green -living/ministers-embrace-electric-car-revolut ion-872393.html

"[Gordon Brown] is considering a remarkable plan to sell the cars cheap, together with their fuel, that is modelled on mobile-phone contracts."

"The scheme ... would sell heavily subsidised vehicles or even give them away in return for contracts to buy the electricity"

I just hope it will happen soon!
