'Insured to Drive any car'
8 Answers
Can you help me settle and argument with my other half, please? We were talking about his car ins and the fact he is insured to drive any other car, 3rd party. I replied that yes, he is but only if that other car has insurance covering it. Is this true?

I have that on my insurance, and as said before it is with permission, but to be done if circumstances dictate, not as a "usual" thing.

There is no law yet enacted (see commencement orders, and lack thereof, for the Road Safety Act 2006 which is meant to amend the Road Traffic Act 1988 in this respect) which states that the vehicle must be covered by a policy of insurance (or equivalent) for it to be used on the road - it is the driver that must have minimum third party insurance cover (or equivalent) for the use of that vehicle. Therefore, until legislation prompts a standard clause across the industry, individual policy conditions will specify what is required vis--vis the insurance status of the other car.
