new motorcycle test

Does anyone know about the start date of the new motorcycle test. It is supposed to start at the end of september 08. I have recently been told that it has definately been put back six months, but cannot find any information on the web.

There are not enough test centres that can do the new test meaning some riders will have to travel up to 100 miles to take the test which could be dangerous for them so it might be posponed.

It is still due to come in, although there is a strong lobby urging the government to dealy. A large number of the new test centres are yet to be finished, and the numbers of examiners willing to transfer is limited (most are saying they will either give up or go back to testing cars (which they are all qualified to do). I know of one motorbike training school that usually gets 60 test slots a month - they have been given 4 for the whole of October. It seems like yet another example of an out-of-touch givernment organisation that is refusing to listen to the industry experts.
