Best value cars under �1000

I've been scanning Autotrader and there are some interesting possibilities for my �1000 budget, but knowing the depth of knowledge on AB, I thought I'd ask if anyone could give their views on the best value car for �1000 or less. I care little about looks/prestige etc. All i want is reliability, reasonable mileage and an insurance group that won't kill me! What are your suggestions?

Hi, when byeing a car for that price take into account there are no saintjonnys out there so if you are not Mech minded for your own sake take someone with you that knows, If it costs you �20. its worth it dont forget when you have bought the onus is then on you, Peugeots, corsa, Clio, these are a good bye providing you take your time and look carefully.
