Ping Primary Domain Name Server . FAIL ???

I am new to networking and we have currently a small 2 pc and 2 printer network yesterday a sudden powercut caused our printers on the network to stop working/talking to the router and pc's on the network.

I have no idea how to fix the problem. I logged on to the router and did a diagnostic check and it came back saying:

Testing Ethernet LAN connection ... PASS
>> Testing ADSL Synchronization . PASS
>> Testing ATM OAM segment ping ... PASS
>> Testing ATM OAM end to end ping ... PASS
>> Ping Primary Domain Name Server . FAIL
>> Ping www.yahoo.com ... PASS

I dont know what 'Ping Primary Domain Name Server . FAIL ' means and if this is the problem and how to fix the problem and get the printers working again.

First thing I'd do is turn everything off, then after a few mins turn the router on.

Then after a few mins, turn the computers on.

Then a few mins later, turn the printers on.

See if this resolves your issue.

If not:

Is the router connected with a surge protector?

In the router settings, you should be able to change the DNS entries (probably two of them). If so, note what they currently are (just an IP address), and change them to:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Thanks for the answer, because I didnt get any answers on here for a while at not knowing when I would I tried to sort it by rebooting the router but to 'current settings' not factory. And then I tried powering down the router and when back up and bobs your uncle fannies your aunt its working yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

By the way though, it does say on the router settings about firmware and updating it, I dont know how important this is.

To be able the update you need to know where the original firmware is on your pc because it asks you to browse for the file and update over the last firmware update??? I dont know where to find the original firmware or even if updating it is important???

The router is just a mini PC, and its software is written to a chip, not a hard drive.

You can goto the manufacturer's website, and download the latest firmware. But just make sure you get the correct one, and install it correctly, otherwise you'll have a dead router.

But if it's working, then I wouldn't bother updating unless the firmware fixes a major security issue.
