my son went to court for driveing his new car home without insureing it when he bought it he got stopped by the police and went to court he got given 6 points on his licence and the magistrate advised that they would send his licence to dvla and he would hear from them soon within a couple of days he got his licence sent back to him from the court not the dvla with the 6 points added to the counterpart we dont understand why the licence was sent back to him and not sent to the dvla as he was 2 months off of 2 years driveing is his licence going to be revoked or not as the court did not say this

mic sorry I didn't get what you meant by 'he wa 2 months off 2 years' driving'. Do you mean his previous points were due to be made invalid?
Question Author
sorry i meant he was only 2 months away from being passed his test two years when he got stopped
the licence will not have been sent physically to the DVLA
it will have been sent electronically to them and his details logged
if you incur 6points or more with in the first 2 years of passing your test your license will be revoked until a further test is passed :-(

ring the dvla
mic I can't see in my honest opinion they have any reason to revoke his licence. As long as there were no more than 6 points already on it of course; otherwise he would then total 12 and that would be an instant ban.
Anyway, this would have been made clear to him in court if he had lost his licence. Don't worry he sounds ok to me; the points are invalid in 3years time by the way. Just make sure he gets insurance asap!! The dvla are the ones who act on behalf of the court anyway. They don't make the actual decisions
sorry mic dusty puss and my replies crossed. I see what you are saying now about the 2 year thing. Maybe ring and check.

so do you all think he will get a letter from dvla soon because he is still driveing at the moment coz the court said he could untill he heard from dvla
Very good information here:

http://www.2pass.co.uk/retest.htm

When the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is notified that a new driver has six or more penalty points they will write to him/her to say that the licence has been revoked. The driver then reverts to learner status and is treated like any other learner. He or she has to apply for a new provisional licence...
Question Author
does any one know how long it takes form going to court to the licence being revoked?
www.lawanswers.co.uk this site is very useful might be a little more help.
But you don't need any more help as you have been told all you need to know. The revocation process usually takes about two weeks.
