key code problem,for ford fiesta

hello,can any one help please. i have just brought my first car (1996) ,the ford cd player comes on but says "code" the book for the car didnt come with it. i have taken the sterio out & have seen a 4 digit number which i think is the code,i have enterd the code but nothing happens.. i have phoned ford & they have said they will do it for �23.50.As im a single mum at collage,& money is tight with xmas coming i didnt really want to pay inless i have to. i just need some advise as to wether the number i am puting in is the right number?

are u putting the code in correctly?

As far as I remember if the code is 1542 for example, you press "button 2" once, "3" 5 times, "4" four times and "5" twice.

connor91,the majority of people who ask for codes on here.do so because the radio is stolen.and if you check they are always greenies,new members.
they usually give a story now simelar to this one,because most of us have stopped giving the code out..so please stop giving out the codes and join us in trying to stop theft from cars.

as for you normanthedo im glad you said the majorty of people!! just because im a newbe doesnt make me a THIEF! if you tock the time to read my question propley you would see that i was only asking if i was entering the code right.as this is my first car i have a lot to learn i dont have a clue about cars, thats why i joined this site because you can ask questions & people help you!!! not write messages saying that my radio is most likely to be stolen! but please dont judge US ALL THE SAME! I have worked HARD to save for my car,& dont need people like you puting me down...

reane,if you were as clever as you think you are you would have read my post and understood it,you might not have stolen the radio,my post never accused you of that,but over 250.000 radios do get stolen every year and its a known fact people on here have obtained codes for stolen ones. maybe your story is true,i hope it is,just chill out and grow up,and lets hope your radio never gets stolen out of your car.as they could get the code from another idiot on here.

(normanthedo) i dont think im clever, thats why i posted a question on here!!! to recive some help, as connor said the site is called answerbank... i totally understand what you are saying, but from the start i was NOT asking for the code i asked for help as i was entering the code & my sterio still wasnt working,the code i had was the same as the one conner gave me, my point is why would i want to pay ford �23.50 to press the number 5 button twice for me? when there are sites like this where people can help me for free....
if someone was to ask for help in how to fit alloy's would you have a problem helping them? even though LOADS of people have theres stolen!! plus if you really think about it, a lot of the questions asked on here, could be about stolen good's!!! its not just car radios that get stolen.
