Doom and Gloom in the car market

I am in the market for a new car at the moment but am currently holding off because as a result of the doom and gloom in the car market I was expecting prices of new cars to be a tumbling - but this doesn't appear to be happening.

As, if the news is to be believed, there are disused airfields up and down the country fit to bursting with unsold new cars, why aren't the prices of these cars being slashed just to get the stock moving?

I'm no expert, but surely stock movement and therefore money movement is better than nothing, isn't it?

I strongly suspect I am not alone in waiting to see what happens before taking the plunge.

I heard of a dealer in Norwich who slashed prices on all the cars of forecourt by about 40% the other week.
But as a general rule, most cars are still being sold with the standard discounts for new cars.
But you can always try and haggle a deal yourself.
my parent just bought a 17k car for 7 thousand so there are offers to get out there.

a word of caution though, try and check up on what car manufacturers are in trouble and avoid them
You have to go and ask flip-flop, they are not advertising the full discounts they will take. EG there's GM dealer in Southhampton doing a BOGOF deall on Vectras.

Go into showroom get cheapest price offer 40% below, stand well back be prepared to walk away. they have to sell.
here in Glasgow a Sheilds Landrover dealer was giving away a brand new Ford Ka worth 9000 if you purchased a car that costs 18000 or more.
In a similar vein houses are not selling well at the moment. I wonder if estate agents are reducing their commission?

A further stimulus is required by the government to get the sales of cars moving. My posting below might help.
Who said recession was bad? I was broke before this all happened and now stuff is getting cheaper! Its not like I have interest on savings or stock options to worry about. KerChiiiing!
"I wonder if estate agents are reducing their commission?"
I think not !
if anything the opposite will happend less sales higher commission to keep money turn overs high to cover there flash cars expensive houses etc etc etc .
I for one have never met a poor estate agent !

still back to the thread !

buy one get one free !!!! wow cant wait for mercs to start doing that !!!
