My son has a Citroen AX and he has to keep slamming the doors several times to get it to close.
We had the hinges re-aligned but the problem has come back.
Today the door flew open as he went round a corner.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to rectify the problem?

Thanks

hello cath have you checked to see if the door lock its self has not moved and if it has'nt check the locking pin on the door pillar to make sure it is not loose or moved regards john
Similar answer to above. You can adjust the strike plate on the pillar. I wouldn't touch the hinges if it were my car. Also, some cars, especially VWs are very well sealed, which means you have to close the doors firmly (not slam). You can test this by opening one of the windows slightly to let out some air on closing; if it is easier then you have a good seal and just adjust the strike plate(s) very slightly.
Hi, check the locking "JAWS" on the lock itself! are they worn? as said, the striker, when you close the door, check the inside of the car that the door handle has not stuck.
I have a Citroen Xantia and had a similar problem on a rear door. The lock was worn out. Go to the scrfapyard and get a replacement. You will undoubtely need Torx bits to undo the old one.
A progress report or some sort of acknowledgement would be welcome !

Hi All
Sorry for not responding, I have passed the replies to my brother-in-law (as I am not mechanically minded) but he is working away this week so we will not be able to try your suggestions until the weekend.
I do appreciate all replies though.
Thanks for your help, I will let you know how we get on.
