Peugeot 206 - Servicing Costs

I have a Peugeot 206, 53 Reg, and it is due a major service. The Peugeot Garage has quoted 295 for a full service. I think this is far too expensive.

My question is, if I took my car my local garage (i.e. not a registered Peugeot dealer), would they be just as good. Do you think it would be cheeky to ask them to replace the air filter, oil filter etc, with Peugeot parts?

Thank you for any help given.

you would get it cheaper for certain, and they will do it with proper parts of you ask them, juts cost will be more
Hi, there is more to a service than changing what you have quoted, brakes (All) Under body check for your Pug warranty ( Broken or split sealant) Metal pipes (Brakes) although at a 53 plate it may not need pipes there is always the chance one has been hit by a stone etc, tyres/pressures+spare, they should put it through a Dio test to make sure it is running well, if you want good service out of your car and a good return when you sell, get it done right but as you state (Not at a dealers) but a VAT reg garage.
What is done in the "major" service? Do you know?

A major service includes a lot as TWR said, if renewing the cambelt is part of the service then you are getting the service very cheap!
Is it a petrol or a diesel? If its a diesel the fuel filter is an absolute sod to change and takes a while. most independent garages tend to use gen peugeot parts (mine does) as apparently they are not expensive in the trade. The other thing with diesels is they need regular oil changes, my mpg used to improve dramatically after it was serviced. The other thing to do is shop around for prices, in my experience the indpendents are as good as if not better than the dealers.
