I'm at my wits end with a central heating problem and I'm really hoping someone can offer advice.
In september I had a new Combi boiler (Ravenheat) and 4 new radiators installed by a corgi engineer. My system was also power flushed. Since it was fitted I've never felt that the downstairs radiators were very hot - quite warm yes but not hot. The upstairs ones are roasting. In addition to this, my new boiler makes the most horrific loud 'clanging' noises when it fires up in the morning after lying cold overnight. It sounds like it's trying to do something but can't or that there are loose parts inside (the radiators do heat up when it's doing this though). The noises usually stop after a few minutes. It's so loud that even my neighbour says she hears it. These noises have been going on since the day after it was fitted and is an almost daily occurrence. I have had the intaller out a couple of times and he has advised that he thinks the boiler is faulty. We also asked British Gas to come out to give their opinion. They balanced the radiators and as a result the downstairs radiators are warmer than they previously were but again, not hot. British gas suggested a thermistor fault.
Weirdly, my radiators downstairs have been getting really hot intermittently over the last few days. I haven't carried out any of the suggestions here yet as I've hardly been at home but I'm gravitating towards the trapped air/ circulation problem theory. Will keep you posted.
