knocking Almera

I have a Nissan Almera 1600. My problem is a muffled 'knocking' sound that seems to come from the front nearside area of the vehicle. It increases in frequency with acceleration, so would appear to be connected with something rotating.

However, the brakes are definitely not binding and nothing seems loose or unduly worn, and the car recently passed the MOT with no problem.

This noise has been with me literally for years:
strangely, it varies in volume from being scarcely noticeable one day to quite loud the next day.

Any ideas, please?

Check your wheel Bolt holes, has the car run at any time with the wheel nuts loose? Check the Tyre, although you said it had passed its MOT. check the inside/ouside walls of the tyre, Drive Shafts these should have been inspected on your MOT, Wheel Bearing, As prevoius MOT, Check the Disk edges for Build up due to wear of the disk, check your tyre treads for a metal object that has been picked up by your tyre eg/ bolt, large nail etc, these can be picked up 7 the tyre still holds pressure.
