fiat punto rattling nose

my girlfriend just bought a 1999 fiat punto elx 1.2 just passed MOT had test drive everything seemed fine but now seems to be rattling grinding noise coming from front or underneath front of car seems to be worse in 2nd gear and when accelerating and slowing down also now noticed oil is all over the engine although hoping this is just small leak and cheap to fix any help appreciated

The punto's sump are prone to rust if not looked after to start, Check that the oil filer plastic cap is on right, these things are a waste of space, check the Rocker cover Gasket as these do also tend to leak, (not a big job) check the under wing splash guards? are they hitting the ground?
the noise you hear may well be the cam, you say the car is loosing oil, if that's the case have you checked the level?

yes m8 checked oil had mechanic round tonight to look at it to many things wrong with car to mention basically should never in a million years passed MOT so contacting VOSA tomorrow to get car retested and hopefully contact trading standards or police does anyone know what happens if VOSA checks car and fails the car MOT 1 week after a garage has passed it? thanks

The MOT only stands for the Day,time, the car was tested, if you have bought the car from a dealer who issued you with 12mths, you have one avenue to go on, as you have stated, the Trading Standards.
