what can i do about being sold a dodgey car with a dodgey MOT cert?

I have recently bought a Citroen Saxo VTR on an X REG, i have had it for 6 weeks, its only been being drove for 1 week though as my partner only passed his test on monday and its aleady had to go to the garage. The mecanic says the driveshaft has gone and the oil seals. The CV joints had dried up and now the gear box is about to go. The car also has a dodgey MOT certificate there are more miles on the cert than there are on the actual car. They told us the car was in perfect working order no problems at all, just 2 or 3 slight scratches on the body work. Now the mecanic says the person who has sold us this car knows what he is doing the driveshaft had been greased up the driveshaft to quieten the noise for a few weeks, basically hes had us off!! He will not pay for the repairs or even put anything towards them. We have told him we want are money back but he says no there was only a 14 day warranty on the gearbox & engine, even though this is not stated anywhere n the receipt. Also we recieved the logbook back at the beginning of the week and it says the car has been substantially damaged and repaired he never told us this or i would not have bought the car as my newborn baby would be going in it! he claims he told us all this when we bought the car but i have to very reliable witness that can confirm that he didnt. He also claims that they dont drive the cars but they do as his co-worker that was there the evening we looked at the acr was bragging about driving it and how good its sports clutch was. Can i do anything???
