Nuisance neighbours

Besides punching the lights out of the guy next door can anyone recommend a more adult appraoch to my dilemna.
We moved into our new house 12 months ago. Next door are a family with 3 girls. They have 2 cars, like us, where one car is parked on the driveway and the other directly on the roadside outside our property. Where our garden walls meet there is a school sign which is exactly in the middle of the houses. Logically you would think that we would park up to the sign and they would park up to the sign, their side - this ensures all cars have a parking space and the cars dont overlap the said driveways.
Next door seems to have this "thing" of parking his car past the pole which means little room for my partner to park his car outside our house without overlapping our driveway .... then effecting the house opposite backing out of their driveway.
Nothing has been said as yet but I do not understand why he is not just parking in his own space but being greedy. It is winding me up to the point yesterday I parked my car outside the house .. then later found he has parked bumper to bumper with me - there is just no need for that!!
My partner says to leave it and play him at his own game but at the weekend this neighbour acknowledged us (in a manner) so I think he may be oblivious - IF NOT STUPID!!

Then casually drop it in that the parking in the street is 'all to pot' or something. See what his reaction is, and then that will give you a better idea of how to proceed from there.
Good luck!
Good luck!
No mercy has the right idea. My neighbours are members of a death metal band:-(, and their idea of fun was to play their instruments at 3 in the morning. So, I went round & asked them politely to decease...explaining that I have to work the next day. Hey presto! It worked, And now I couldn't wish for better neighbours, they are really lovely lads, & they'll do anything for me!
Once people believe they are in the 'right' you cant make them change their minds. I live in a flat and the guy downstairs plays the drums - VERY loudly. I have asked and asked for him not to do this - or at least play with skins on them but he wont as he believes he is in the 'right'. I would imagine your neighbour probably has the same attitude - especially as he lived there before you. Either ignore it - or make a big scene... he wont just change what he is doing by suddenly seeing sense!
Hi everyone and thanks for your replies.
Im just no good at good/bad confrontation as I get my words all mixed up - sending a note does sound like a good idea but I then dont want to put across that Im a chicken by not speaking face to face!
I think he knows what he is doing (or is he thats stupid not to) .......
What also makes me laugh is if they have a car on the drive but someone is out in the other ... should a member of the family/friend turn up then they wont park outside their house where there is a space - they park outside ours!! I know they can park anywhere but is it a law they have given to the family/friends to leave their parking area free - when its legally noones anyway!
Think Im going to have to have a joke about it --- was thinking of just saying he had cracked my bumper the other day by bumper2bumper-ing me .... and that I had no money now for nappies for my son!! Something stupid ....

Try this but change egg to parking space
Mark and Tom have been neighbours for several years. Mark has recently bought a hen who regularly goes to Tom's garden through a broken fence. One day, she lays an egg in Tom's garden. Mark sees Tom picking up the egg and taking it in his home. He goes outside and asks him: " Why are you taking my egg? Give it back to me!" Tom says that its his egg because the hen layed it in his garden. Soon they have a loud fight about whose egg it really is. Suddenly Mark says: " Let's solve it my way. You kick me in the balls and time how long it takes before I get up. Then I do the same with you." Tom agrees, goes back inside and puts on a pair of his hardest boots. He returns, runs to Mark, jumps and kicks his neighbour in the nuts. Mark falls unconscious on the ground. After 30 minutes he gets up again and says: "okay, now it's my turn!" Tom looks at him, laughing and replies: "forget it man, you can keep your egg!"
