My wife and I put our three year old daughter in our bed last night and she has wet our bed. She is quite capable of going to relieve herself during the night, but I think she was in a very deep sleep.
anyhow there is a strong smell of urine on the matress, does anyone now how to eliminate this smell as our bedroom is now filled with this odour and is quite unpleasent =(
I don't think you can do anything, as the urine would have seeped deep into the mattresses fibres. Perhaps you can contact a professional upholstery cleaner, who can use the necessary chemicals to eliminate the smell.
Make a strong solution with bicarbonate of soda and water, and sponge the area thoroughly, then put a folded dry bath towel on and trample on it - keep turning the towel / replacing it as it soaks up the water. If you then put fresh dry towels between the mattress and bedsheet it will continue to dry out the area.
Can you turn the mattress over? Or has the wet gone right through?
If you have a wet n dry vacuum cleaner that will also help remove the water
ok thanks guys but I found a home remedy. I filled a spray bottle with one part vinegar and two parts water, i sprayed the matress untill it was soaking then emptied a full beaker of baking soda on the mattress.
Then I allowed the baking soda to absorb the vinegar. I then used a hair dryer to dry the baking soda and mattress ( about 20 minutes altogether ). I then vacuumed the dry baking soda off the matress and smell is completely gone.
is there something wrong medically with your daughter, as young children's urine doesn't usually smell that offensive (lack of sexual hormones, etc)? MIght be as well to check...
