TOP TIPS - Fuel Economy for credit crunch driving

In these austere times, does anyone have Top Tips for saving money while driving, .eg. keeping windows closed to reduce drag etc.? all contributions heartily considered...

Only fill your tank about �10 - �15 a t a time, why spend money hauling along excess weight.

Work out your miles per gallon/ miles per litre
(there are websites that can help you !)
and fill up using *litres* rather than � - otherwise you'd get less milage when the fuel prices go up.

Predentia, you must be running your car on fumes most of the time...lol

If you have a car with no fuel injection get one with it.

If you are going on a long journey make sure you have enough fuel, you don't want to be getting overcharged by motorway service with higher fuel prices.

Change gears earlier as not to rev the engine and waste fuel.

Try to get into 5th gear even at 30mph.

Don't race up to traffic lights that you know are going to be on red or turn red.

join one of the fuel comparison websites like

www.petrolprices.com

they are free and will tell you which of your local garages has the cheapest fuel.

What I meant was it's easy to fill up with 'just a fiver' here and there but if the price of fuel rockets over night as it does sometimes you're getting less litres for the fiver than a month or two ago.

Filling up and taking note of the litres you've put in should help you work out how many miles you can with those litres.You should also be able to judge from this when to fill up next.
