Whilst listening to my car radio, it is constantly interrupted by an inane presenter prattling on about traffic jams. I have tried everything in my power to switch off this 'facility' but it's beaten me. I'm contemplating suicide - or I might even sell the car.

I hope someone answers this question soon.

I have my car radio permanently tuned to the same station and last month I started getting interruptions from another radio station giving traffic reports - they're not even for the bloody area where I live! They seem to broadcast them every 15 mins or so and I feel like ripping the radio out.
well you could have hit the traffic information button by mistake ..my radio has a button maked "af/ta" which broadcasts traffic announcements during radio stations .just needs to be pressed until "af/ta-off" is indicated..something like this is likely to be your problem

Thanks to both of you. My neighbour has an identical car/radio and he had the same problem. His son is a highly qualified computer professional and they couldn't sort out the problem using their combined might. Somehow, though, and they don't know how - the damn thing cured itself and my neighbour doesn't dare to switch on traffic reports now!
On VWs the Traffic Announcement is like another radio band as opposed to an add on to the one you are listening to, once it is switched on it stays on until you select another band, press the FM button (or AM if you like crackly music :-) and the TP icon should go away. Not intuitive at all and took me ages to work it out on the other half's Golf.

Thanks Fitzer, I'll give it a try.
Yeh, this is annoying. I had this problem on my Golf and since I have never bothered using the traffic button.

On the right hand side of your radio, try pressing and holding the TP button (opposite side to the on/off & vol button). It works on our Audi fine; you can turn it on and off quite easily and when it's off it won't take you into another traffic report when you don't need it!
