ive also noticed a rattle noise under the bonnet ive located it and its the alternator ..when the cars idling it theres a rattle noise the comes then goes etc from the alternator????

Could be the fan is loose,or a bearing on it's way out.

Sounds like the bearings - easier and cheaper to get a reconditioned unit
