Costing of Diagnosis

Hey all,
Im having a few problems with my R reg Ford KA
The engine keeps dying on me while i am driving, its usually when i am slowing down on approach to traffic lights, so im still moving at some speed.

While I am stationary I can hear the engine struggling, it sounds like a cat purring to me ( thats the only way i can describe it!) it is noisy for an second then goes really quiet like its about to cut out, its in a rythm though, hence the cat reference!! Also the oil light comes on when i brake.
I am going to take it to a garage and have it hooked up to a computer to get it diagnosed, does anybody have a rough idea on price of this service?
Obviously i know that different garages will vary.... any ideas much appreciated.

ignition problems I'd say. New plugs is the first thing to do.
