I have recently acquired my late fathers clio, which has been sat around for a little while. I don't have the code and when i turn on the stereo it just says "ERROR". If i can get the code, that would be a start, but i want to know, once i have the code, if i disconnect the battery will this reset the stereo allowing me to enter the code??

call renault. if you can, speak to the dealership that sold the car new as they may well have it on record.

if not, you may have to pay for the code.

Cheers for your help. Unfortunately i've tried that and the very helpful bloke said i had to take the log book and ID into a dealer and they would look at it for me. On my last Clio they did it all over the phone, no hassle. I shall persist!!
why cant you take the log book and ID in?
thats the way that companies do it now, its not to be awkward, its to try and deter theives from easily being able to obtain the codes for stolen stereos.

That was going to be my other option. I understand why they do it that way. I have spoken to another, more helpful, Renault dealership. They say that it needs re-coding anyway so got a bloke coming out to sort it, 20. I was just trying to see if it could be done without expense and added inconvenience of having to take it in, but all sorted now, cheers.
glad you got it sorted.

at least you understand the reasons why, there are so many who post on here expecting to be given the code just like that!
