Could I be at fault?

I was coming out of the train station over a bump and the other guy went infront of me to pick his wife up, there was about 4 cars in a row and I tried to get through the gap. his car was facin the other way sort of pointing towards 9oclock if u get me. We were both the middle two cars out of the four, the other car on my right pulled away. Anyway as my car was about level with the front of his (the front of my car made it through) there was a bang and my damage is left hand side back door and his car is right hand side rear quarter just scratches and paint missin, my car has a big dint. Do u think he could of reversed into me??
