You won't need to use the M6 Toll road either. Click on the link for an AA route for Glasgow to Bristol.

Hi, with respect to Joxville's reply, from your area of which I have used on very many occasions, M74-- M6-- depending on what time of day you travel, If its early morning use the Toll as a lot of Haulage firms will not pay the toll for their trucks ( I know this first hand as I used to travel it, so they use the old M6 down to the M5 then on to Bristol, depending what part of Bristol you can either use the M4 then M32 via Fishponds Etc, If you want the Avonmouth side of Bristol, carry on the M5 & come off at Avonmouth & follow the Bristol "West" under the Clifton Suspension Bridge, either way depending on time you will catch the traffic. on your Journey down there are a few NON MOTORWAY rest stops that will not rip you off with their Crp food just ask either I will let you know or others that use this site. Safe Journey.
this place is good, if it suits your schedule to stop just north of birmingham...

Which ever route you take, you will hit heavy traffic in the morning.
If you go M6-M5 you will encounter heavy traffic between M6 J11 and J9 where you join the M5.
If you go M6 toll M42-M5, the M6 toll will be clear but you will meet heavy traffic M42 J9 all the way along the M42 till you turn off for the M5 West.
