stained motorcycle windscreen

My son-in-law had petrol sprayed on his motorcycle windscreen and it seems to have been absorbed by the plastic. So much so that it is difficult to see through it.
Is it possible to make it "see through" again or are we looking at a new windscreen?
Any help welcomed

you could try rubbing it with the finest wet and dry paper you can find, but make sure you keep the paper wet.
