I have 1998 Beemer 323 and it has a tinny, rattle which sound as though something is loose underneath.Checked it over and can't find the problem but a mate has same type of car and his does the same.Does anyone know the cause of this common annoying fault please?

could be a lose exhaust bracket rattling or something like that.

probably an exhaust heat shield or even a loose baffle in the exhaust .

check out bmw owners club forums, most probably coming from the gearbox, sounds like a common fault,changing the oil can help
