I have fully comp cover. My sister is buying a car but she can't actually drive yet! She doesn't have insurance. Am I able to drive the car home? Bear in mind home is 200 miles from the car! Thanks
Hi there, yes I'm pretty sure that if you have fully comp. cover yourself you can drive the car, but you will only have third party cover on that car, maybe check with your insurer though, just to be sure, or you could take out just a days fully comp. cover maybe with your insurer, might be better than tempting fate!...............hope this helps.................welsh
But this entitles you to drive another car that is insured too and you will only be third party, Get her to get it insured in her name for when she does pass and then you can still drive it 3rd party or maybe she can drive it back with you next to her if you have L plates on
you have both backed up what i was trying to get across, yes your policy may cover you to drive another vehicle 3rd party but it needs to have valid insurance first. If it was that easy you could have a couple of cars in someone elses name (ferrari or porche even ) and drive them on one policy for a Ford KA......Insurance companies are not that silly.
If the car is not coverd you will be stopped and nicked trust me, in 200 miles you will get scanned: If the car shows red here it's not insured: http://www.askmid.com/
even if you are personally covered, unusually Dancairo is talking sense here.
I have fully comp on my Transit van but it states in big letters that I cannot drive anybody elses car/van on my insurance even if the vehicle is insured......
The car must be insured for it to be covered by your ins 'third party cover only' for you to drive. If it doesn't have insurance then your policy won't cover it. It also must have Tax and a valid MOT certificate. So make sure your sister gets it insured for herself before you drive it back for her.
Another stupid money making law in this country. Why should a vehicle that is insured by ABC Insurance Co Ltd and is then not covered by them when it is being driven by someone else on their own policy.
So if ABC Insurance LTD state that no claims will met while it is driven by a person not named on the policy and who is driving it covered by there own TP insurance......then surely it has no insurance other than the third party driver........so why has it got to have insurance of it's own?????
