Volvo 440 , ignition problems ?
I have a volvo 440 1991 ,1700, only done 45000 miles been sat for 6 weeks doing nothing , started it , it ran fine for about 30 miles then started to kangaroo and died in 4th gear .I got some advice , checked the plugs fuel filter etc , still the same , i tried it this morning on the off chance it was fine for around 30 minutes then started again . i cleaned the carb out and changed the dizzy cap now it stalls when you start it and give it no revs but when i can finally get some revs up they go up and down on their own , i seem to have done more harm than good by cleaning the carb as it now seems worse than it was before , any ideas ? many thanks , Keith

On these cars the usual suspect is the gasket between the car and the inlet manifold. Take the carb off and and check / replace the gasket. Also check the straightness of the bottom of the carb and the top of the inlet manifold as these have been known to warp giving the same problem. Hope this helps.
