car starting trouble

I own a renault espace 2.0i (1993) which starts ok from cold, but if i drive the car and switch the engine off for a couple of minutes then restart the car the throttle response becomes  very poor and kangaroo's a bit when driving (very embarassing). I'm no expert but it appears as if the engine is flooding. On some occasions it will not start at all, which results in me having to hold down the accelerator while turning the engine over to evaporate the fuel. Any answers will be appreciated, and thankyou in advance.

It sounds like the auto choke is coming on. What I do is press the gas pedal to the floor to empty the carb, then start the car. Maybe a good crypton tune is needed.
I forgot to say, if the auto choke is coming on when the car is still warm it may be the temperature control sensor on it's way out.
