Yesterday I got a message flashing up saying 'top up water level' so I did, right to the maximum, went out last and drove 5 miles in total and it flashed again, so I topped it up! Then this morning, after being parked up overnight it was just slightly below the maximum so I took the kids to college and only drove 2 miles and the message came up again!! any idea?? will it be radiator leaking or hose or what? Garage cannot have a look until tomorrow morning so now am very wary of driving the car in case whatever the problem is goes worse. It seems to be holding the water when parked up but when I drive it is coming out from somewhere!

There are a fair few places the water could be leaking from, and they range from a minor annoyance to engine failure!

The best advice is to not drive unless you have to until a garage can look at it.

If you do need to drive the car, pull over at every opportunity and check the water level.and carry some extra water in the car if at all possible.
As it's only leaking when you drive it, it's a small leak that only happens under presssure. One thing to try is open the oil cap and look inside, if it looks like mayonaise then your head gaskett has gone. Otherwise start it on the drive and see if you can see where it's leaking from, could be loose hose somewhere or a small hole in the rad.
you could try slackening off the rad cap so it dont pressurise the system - don't lose the cap tho
Is your exhaust all steamy?

Thanks everyone! The mechanic had a look and showed me the thermostat housing had come loose (supposedly common in picassos) and whilst driving it was vibrating and as such has knocked off 'a nipple' (don't know if thats the proper name or just mechanic talk!) lol so it is easy enough to fix - just need to find a stockist with stock now!!
Just a point of SAFETY Louise, NEVER attempt to top up your Radiator whilst the engine is hot, I hope I am not being sexist with my reply? ( your name! )
