Hi All
I'm a Gal in trouble. I have a Fiesta Climate 1.2 ..2006 owned from new with 22k on the clock. Fully serviced but out of warranty Sept 2009.
The speedo does not work ...there are 3 waring lights on (abs/ engine and brakes) and the centre info panel fuel /mile to go etc just has dashes on. but the brakes work well and so does the rev counter/ fuel gauge/temp gauge and it runs and starts well. took it into local Ford Garage (Evans Halshaw) at 8am this morning and despite 3 calls from me during the day ..at 5.15pm they tell me it needs a new abs sensor at £860...less a good will guesture from Ford of 35% which means I need to pay them £562.00 ish....
Surely this is daylight robbery????? on a car with so little mileage????
Any thoughts would be welcome..
Thanks
Remy

Of course its daylight robbery. Having a garage is a business to print your own money. But price it elsewhere. If its out of warranty, don't give Ford your business. There are plenty of independant garages. Ask friends / colleagues for a recommendation.

Get it fixed and stay safe.
Read the final paragraph on this page to get an idea of what's gone wrong (and why it's likely to be linked to excessive or harsh braking):
http://carparts.break...pares/Abs-sensor.aspx

Then use the part finder, at the top right of that page, to get cheap used parts. (I've used it plenty of times, without any problems. It's also the first place that many local garages will look for replacement parts). Then get a reliable independent garage to fit it for you. It will save you hundreds of pounds.

If you're still unsure, ask an independent garage for for their quote. They'll be able to advise you regarding the suitability of getting hold of a used part. Even if they have to go through a Ford main dealer to get a new part, they'll still charge you much less for labour. (I work for a Ford main dealer. Staff get a third off labour charges but it would still be far more expensive for me to get my car repaired at work than at my reliable local garage).

Before you opt for a second hand part. OBTAIN a written estimate from ford then demand you get a SECOND opinion and comparative quote from an independent garage.
Sounds like it could be the ABS control module or pump .. which can be expensive. Without this fixed, the ABS light will not extinguish, meaning will fail MOT.
You need to know exactly what has failed .. the buy one from eBay or breaker. They are around.
Here's a new one on eBay ... Part no needs checking tho!!

it must be more than a sensor, sensors usually cost less than £100+ vat and assuming its not seized less than 30mins to fit + a bit of diagnostics £250 + max
