I have driven for almost 21 years and never made a claim on any car insurance (well no insurance what-so-ever come to that) and as I have changed insurers as and when I got a better quote I've never actually had written confirmation as to a 'no claims bonus' . Does this mean that despite having never claimed in 21 years that I have no 'no claims bonus' what-so-ever? TIA

Hi Krusty,

I changed my motor insurance only last week. The new provider asked me to send them a scanned copy of the renewal quote from my old provider as they will accept this as proof of my no claims bonus. I did this and got an email back from them stating that they have tranferred my no claim bonus. Maybe your new provider will do the same?

Hey krusty,

Your old insurers should have sent you out a no claims certificate kind of thing when you ended the policy with them? And also the new insurers should just be able to check with your old insurers to verify your no claims. That is what happened to me anyway!

I didnt even no I had any no claims until I realised my old insurers messed up cancelling an old policy, so I had built up 2 years no claims on a car I hadnt had for 18 months! :-)

Proof of No CLaims Bonus is usually your renewal notice - if you have lost it then your these days most insurers will confirm by phone or email to your new insurer - some even send letters in the post !!
I've been driving for 7 years and never have I received anything about NCB's nor have any insurance company I have ever been with ever asked for proof. Every time I've switched insurance companies they haven't even asked for pervious company. I must just be lucky :)
your previous insurer will have a record.
direct line sent mine out 3 tmes as they got the number of years wrong, they told me i had 8 years on the phone but only 7 in writing.
if you request them send it to you, by law they have to as its your legal entitlement.
