Careless driving with invalid driving license
Dear All,
I am holding a french driving licence which was previously changed from a license from the united arab emirates as I used to live in france and before in dubai.
Last week I was stopped nby the police for careless driving and I've been told my licence was not valid and that I could only drive 1 year with my licence after I came to the uk, ( i live in the uk for 4 years now ).
They seized the vehicule which I signed for it to be disposed of, my license is not valid in the uk, and I want to know what will happen next, the guy in the police station said to me that I will receive a letter then I have to go to court with my driving license.
can anyone let me know what do I risk now and what will happen?
Thanks

The offence can, I believe, be punished by three to nine penalty points, discretionary driving disqualification and a fine of up to £2500.00.
I don't know much about foreign driving licences though as to whether you effectively have a driving licence to be able to drive here or not and whether that is an issue.
Were you insured?
For valid foreign licences I believe they can put points on a ghost licence,

Having spent hours watching all these 'Road Wars' series on tv when I was nursing and feeding my baby son after he was born I am aware that any foreign driving licence only covers you for a maximum of one year in the UK before you'd have to obtain a British one. They quite often found that people stopped for some reason or another hadn't a valid UK licence and charged them for it.
