strange noise

When I go through a big puddle in my car (p reg VW polo) it makes a really loud noise that sounds a little like a distorted radio station and last for about 10 seconds. There is a hole in part of the exhaust, could it be to do with that? What else could be making the noise? Im scared my car is going to blow up.

It sounds like water being splashed onto the hot exhaust pipe and sizzling as it is boiled off.

If there is a hole in the exhaust pipe you should repair it or have that part of the exhaust replaced.
