Can anyone show me the proof please via a link if possible where it says you still retain your insurance with no car tax please ? This was posted in reply to my comments on another thread. Has anyone else watched Traffic Cops or is it just me ? lol

But I am afraid if anyone drives without road tax is a criminal wether they like it or not. U can get some very grumpy people on here if they don't get the answer they want

"If the car has no road tax, the ABI says insurers are still obliged under the Road Traffic Act to pay out for both third party and comprehensive claims. The fact that you are committing an offence by not having tax is irrelevant."

Thanks oldhamfan must admit I have never heard of this so I wonder why then when we where hit by an untaxed car the insurance refused to pay up because the car was not taxed ? interesting.

Nice to see some Northern common sense prevailing (Just guessing by your name thats all)
There may possibly have been another reason for the insurance being invalid.

For my sins I have always been and continue to be an Oldham Athletic fan through thick (and VERY thin in recent years!)
It's a common myth that insurance is voided by other illigalities. If that where the case every prosecution of any sort would be accompanied by one for no insurance. Clearly a nonsense. What it means though is that by not having tax for example, you are giving your insurer a reason to refuse or reduce your claim. They will generally still cover third party risks. They may well seek to recover third party payouts from you if you are seriously illigal. For example if you are drink driving and cause an accident they will probably pay third party damage and sue you for it. etc etc
The problem is you need to have an MOT to get your tax. Therefore if no tax maybe no MOT either. A car without an MOT could be a danger on the road and be the cause of an accident. Therefore the insurer may treat this claim with some caution.
