hypothetical

Need help with at the moment a hypothetical question but could become real.

I have some female guests in my home for a few drinks - may be 3 ladies. Two of the ladies goes home and the hostess (myself) goes to bed leaving one lady. Unfortunately this lady continues to drink or maybe not but she falls from top of the stairs and is either injured or worse dies - whose fault would it be. Her own fault or mine because I am the property-owner.

I have this debate over and over with friends and of course worry about it. Thanks for any answers.

If she didn't die, she could sue you. However, depending on how intoxicated she was, there would be a large proportion of contributory negligence on her part.

If she dies your quids in. Sue her parnts for not teaching her how to drink properly and sue her estate for the clean up costs for your stairs.
