Car charger for mobile phone

I recently bought a car mobile phone charger. The description said it was suitable for many, many Nokia mobiles including the two models that I have. It works perfectly with my Nokia 6100 but when I try to use it with my Nokia 6210 I get an error message: Not Charging.
The battery fitted to my 6210 is a replacement for the original and states Capacity 1200mAh. On the car charger body it says 600mAh. Question: Should this charger work with a battery of this capacity?
I should perhaps add that the Nokia mains charger works fine but I would like to be able to charge both my phones from the mains and in the car.
The online store where I bought the charger has told me to return it for replacement but I am reluctant to do this if the battery capacity is the problem.
As a subsidiary question, does anyone know if / where I can get a car charger for this particular phone battery?
