Ford KA head gasket gone, what else might be wrong?

My Kazi broke down on the M25 after sitting in traffic for 1/2 hour (I call that motorway the perpetual car park), and it seems that the head gasket has gone. I'm wondering would that affect the thermostat, at the time I had the heating turned up full, now it's only blowing cold.

Is the Electric Fan working? you say that you where sitting! this tells me the fan is not coming in, Do you have water in the system? Cold air from the Heater" Air lock in the system, try to bleed the system, Check your fan belt, check your hoses for splits,
