help please my smarty wont start

hi all,
i bought my smat car about 4 weeks ago and all was gr8 until the other night i went to start it and it jus didnt start i drove it that day and something strange happend i stopped at a junction and the put my foot on accelorator as usual but didnt move any ware for a couple of secounds and then suddenly kicked in (did not put foot all the way down, was driveing normal) and a couple of times befor that when i have tried to start her up it took a while longer than should have...?

ok so at first u could hear the water pump whirring but now nothing, all that happens is on the dash the digital circles for fuel gadge and tempurature flash and i have a horizontal line in the squar that usualy appears with the nutuaral /drive mode, i have machanics in my family but have never worked on smarts..... they have changed all fuses and there is power in the battery the windows work and the doors lock and cd player works but the soft top wont work and the car wont start my car is a smart passion cabriolet 2002 ,petrol right hand drive with 47miles and full survice history does any 1 have advice please................?????
