parking the ''wrong way''

My view is that it should be iilegal to park facing oncoming traffic! 1.you have to ''cross over '' to do it which is dangerous. 2 you have to ''pull out'' without clear vision-if you are parked in a line which is dangerous. 3.at night oncoming traffic do not have the benefit of you reflectors to warn them- again dangerous. .In New Zealand it is law and it works.Its down to laziness after all!!! and whilst I am on my ''hobby horse'' why cant traffic wardens have reporting road tax dodgers as part of their job description? They can walk past out of date tax discs[which shouldn't be parked anywhere! ]and report out of time law abiders.Doesn't make sense!

Its supposed to be illegal to park facing the wrong way at night because the rear reflectors are not picked up by passing traffic but the police dont seem concerned anymore, but I agree with your comments even more so when it involves hgv's pulling in and out of layby's on the wrong side of the road.

So what if I have a left hand drive car, same problems! Seriously the last thing we need is more regs about parking. If you can't park and unpark safely then you shouldn't be on the road anyway. As for wardens reporting tax disc ommission, no need, in fact tax discs are largely irrelevant anyway. Tax/insurance/Mot are check via the plate and an increasing no of police cars have aut number reading equipment to flag dodgers. Pretty soon all police cars will be equiped.

Highway Code para 239:

“...wherever possible...do not park facing against the traffic flow”

The same para goes on to say that it is safer for passengers (especially children) to get out on the side next to the kerb.

Highway Code para 248 (Parking at night):

“You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.”

So “your” reasons (sorry to use the correct word, hope you can understand me!) do stack up in some respects as it is illegal to park on the wrong side of the road at night. However, enforcement is another matter.

thats sounds pretty petty to me.

its only the same visibilty as coming out of a side road and turning right...
and why do oncoming traffic need the 'benefit' of a parked cars reflectors?...warn them of what? can't say ive ever needed them for anything.
you cross over all the time...when turning into side roads, doing u-turns etc...so i hardly see that this make much of a difference

if there were statistics stating many accidents were caused by this, then yes, id agree...but im pretty sure there arent'
