What is undertaking? - BGB available!
Blue Geezer badge for the first person to tell me what undertaking is. I'll help you out, it is hardly ever Practised in Britain and it is an entirely legal manoeuvre. It is not overtaking on the left as it is commonly mistaken for.

Undertaking is the practice of pulling into the undertaking lane to allow a faster vehicle to go past. It is most commonly a sort of half a lane to the left/right depending on the country. This applies to non dual carraigeways mainly. Very common in Ireland and also Spain.
I do accept though jakes point that overtaking on the wrong side has become known as undertaking and as with all lthese things it takes on validity with usage even if the initial usage is incorrect.
