Occasional sound distortion

Every so often, usually when playing PKR poker or Texas hold em poker (facebook app.) The sound effects become distorted and sound what I can only describe as 'Darlek' (Dr Who, yes) It's that sort of noise. Anyone any idea why this happens? I have very cheap speakers, but if they were to blame surely it would happen all the time?
