Car alarm keeps going off!

After buying the car a few months ago, the person i bought it off said he didnt think it had an alarm as nothing ever went off, but for a few weeks now, after locking and unlocking it makes the typical beep. But now, every time a noisy car goes past it sets the alarm off and its annoying me and probably the neighbours. I dont know if its to do with the key fob, it has two buttons, one with a line ( | ) and one with two lines ( || ) the one with one line locks and unlocks but i have no idea what the other one does as nothing happens, any ideas on how to shut the darn thing off?

oh yea was meant to, vauxhall astra p reg late 96 i think. clifford alarm, but dont hold me to that

sounds like the 'shock sensor' is to sensative, not familair with Clifford but many aftermarket alarms have adjustable shock sensors or even the option to turn it off.
Doesnt a 'P' reg AStra have a chipped key ?..if so the alarm is a waste of time anyway.

If it has ultrasonic sensors inside the car, try unplugging these for a few days to see if cured.
If it is them, there may be a control module "interface" that they plug into, and it may have a sensitivity setting. Turn down a bit.

Bad time of year for car alarm untrasonics. Heat, sun and humidity changes set them off easily.

Yes, a P reg Astra has a chipped key, so it can't be started without the key.

Get someone knowledgeable to disconnect the alarm.

Be cautious before disconnecting the alarm. Someone I knew was in the same situation. Alarm went off early morning for days and days. Eventually he disconnected the alarm. Next day - no car.
